Legion Miramichi
Branch No. 10 1st
Floor, 385 Pleasant St. Miramichi, NB E1V 1X4 Office: 622-1809 Canteen: 622-2161
June 8, 2010
Dear Comrades:
Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely June weather! Come to the legion
to escape the rain and hopefully soon the heat. Enjoy a quiet drink, play pool or darts. We now have satellite
radio (donated by a member) and a piano for your enjoyment.
I am pleased to announce that the branch now
has Internet access. We have had a website for a year or so but now have our own e-mail address. If you would
like to have your e-mail address placed on file with us, please send me a note to miramichilegion@bellaliant.com and check
out the website at miramichilegion.ca.
The Saturday dances are well attended with popular bands
playing each week. N&C Country, Midnight Fire and Heartland are three of the regular bands. Karaoke on Friday’s
continue with two deejays rotating – Tom’s Karaoke and The Beaulieu’s. Each week a singer has a chance
to win a prize at the end of the evening.
The Friday dart shoot will continue through the summer and everyone is
welcome. Play starts at 8pm with five rounds played for $1/round. Pool tournaments continue on Tuesday’s
and Thursday’s at 2:30pm. All players welcome. Tuesday play 45’s at 7:30pm and cribbage continues
on Sundays at 2pm. Cash prizes!
The Miramichi Entertainers hold a jam session each Wednesday at 7pm.
Drop in to play, sing or enjoy the music.
On July 1st, N&C Country will entertain from 3-6pm. A steak
barbeque will start at 4pm for $10/person.
A veteran’s supper was held May 29th and we were honoured
to have 40 World War II and Korean Veterans and guests attend. We hope to make this an annual affair possibly expanding
to our peacekeepers and regular force veterans.
We did not send late dues notices from the branch this year as
Dominion Command sent them in April. If you have not paid your dues for 2010 (or 2009) it is still not too late.
We value your membership and hope that you will continue your membership.
The
year started on a good note financially then took a hit in March and April with some expenses like insurance, license fees,
etc. However May is looking up and we hope the summer will be good although Sunday and Monday darts are done until September.
The branch is available for benefits, birthday/anniversary parties, bridal/baby showers and meetings. Call the
office for bookings.
To help with finances, the Ways and Means committee is including a book of tickets in this
newsletter for $1000 cash. The draw date is July 1st – so get those tickets back a.s.a.p. A full book of
tickets is $15 is sold as 7 tickets for $10; and the other 3 tickets for $5. We sincerely appreciate your help in purchasing
or selling the tickets for us.
Enclosed is an application for the Military Service Recognition Book that is produced by New Brunswick Command. If you have not sent in a form previously or know of a veteran who would like to be in the
book, please complete the form and drop it off at the legion. The picture can be a military picture, a current day picture
or no picture if you wish.
Due to some vacancies on our executive we will elect a second vice president at the
